Jason Gillespie breached contract: PCB hits back at former coach over non-payment allegations

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has hit back at Jason Gillespie after the Australian alleged that he was still awaiting payment from the board. Gillespie, who briefly coached the Pakistan team in 2024, resigned citing irreconcilable differences with the PCB.

Four months after stepping down, Gillespie stirred the pot once again, claiming he had yet to receive some of his remuneration from his tenure as head coach. In a candid interview with PakPassion, the Australian great said, “Yes, without going into details. I’m still waiting on some remuneration from work that’s been done.” He added, “That’s been a little disappointing, but hopefully it can be sorted sooner rather than later.”

On Monday, April 21, the PCB responded strongly, stating that Gillespie had breached his contract by failing to serve the required notice period. The board unequivocally denied his claims and hinted that they were not obligated to pay the former coach any further compensation.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach regarding non-payment of dues. A PCB spokesperson stated that the former coach abruptly left his position without serving the four-month notice period, which was a clear breach of contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it,” the PCB said in a statement on Monday.

Pakistan are currently coached by Aaqib Javed, who remains in an interim role. Following the Champions Trophy 2025 debacle, there have been murmurs of yet another shake-up in the team’s management. Pakistan cricket are going through a period of incredible instability. The side has gone through several coaches since their exit from the 2023 ODI World Cup.

First it was Mohammad Hafeez who got sacked from the team after a short tenure post the World Cup, and after that Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie took on the roles in different formats but quit their positions owing to differences with the board.
