IPL 2025: Sanju Samson will not travel to Bengaluru for RCB vs RR

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson will not be travelling to Bengaluru for the team’s next clash in the Indian Premier League. Samson, who missed RR’s home game against the Lucknow Super Giants, will also be absent from the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The franchise announced the development via a statement on Monday, April 21—the same day the Royals flew out from Jaipur. Samson was struck on the ribs during Rajasthan’s match against the Delhi Capitals and had to retire hurt after facing just 19 balls. He later complained of abdominal pain and was subsequently rested for the game against LSG.

“He is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team’s home base with select RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bengaluru for the upcoming match against RCB,” Rajasthan Royals said in an official statement.

In Samson’s absence, young Vaibhav Suryavanshi made an immediate impact, scoring 34 off just 20 balls. He started his IPL career in style, smashing an 80-meter six off Shardul Thakur and showing immense promise in his short but impressive innings.

Suryavanshi combined with Yashasvi Jaiswal to add 85 runs, but the pair couldn’t guide Rajasthan to a win against LSG.

Earlier, following the DC game, rumors of a rift between Samson and head coach Rahul Dravid had spread like wildfire across social media. Many fans speculated that the two were not on the same page. Dravid addressed the speculation ahead of the LSG match, dismissing the rumors as baseless.

Sanju will miss RR’s upcoming clash against RCB, scheduled for April 24. Rajasthan will then return home to face the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.
