In a startling occurrence that occurred late on Saturday night at the Bettiah police lines in the West Champaran district of Bihar, a police constable was shot dead by his colleague. Following a furious disagreement about the latter’s “interaction” with one of their wives, the catastrophe transpired.

Police officials claim that Constable Sarvjeet Kumar used his service gun to shoot Constable Sonu Kumar, a fellow officer. Around 10:20 p.m., Sarvjeet allegedly fired 11 shots during the attack inside the police barracks, fatally striking Sonu, who passed away immediately.

Both men had recently been transferred from Sikta police station to Bettiah police lines just two days prior to the incident and were known to have been close friends, often attending each other’s family functions.

Shaurya Suman, the superintendent of police, clarified that once Sarvjeet grew uneasy about Sonu’s communication with his wife, tensions had increased. A Saturday night altercation swiftly got out of hand in spite of earlier warnings.

Following the shooting, Sarvjeet first climbed onto the barracks’ roof to avoid being arrested right away, but other cops finally caught him. At the scene, an INSAS rifle—the weapon used in the attack—was confiscated.

Sonu’s body has been sent for a post-mortem test, and senior police officials, including Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vivek Deep, stated that 11 empty rounds were found at the scene.

The two had known each other’s families and regularly visited each other’s family events, it was discovered during interrogation. But recently, things became tense when Sarabjeet became uneasy about Sonu Kumar’s relationships with his wife. Sarabjeet claimed to have objected to Sonu talking to his wife during questioning. He claimed to have warned Sonu previously, but the shooting happened as a result of a furious quarrel that broke out on Friday night, according to SP Suman.
